Who will win the Ryder Cup 2010?

4 June 2010 by admin, No Comments

Coming into the 2010 Ryder Cup Tournament at the Celtic Manor Resort there are strong contenders on both Team Europe and Team America. The Americans hold the Cup from their 2008 upset victory at the last Ryder Cup held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Team Europe feels this is just a temporary situation as they held it for the eight previous Ryder Cup tournaments. Despite such a strong field being brought to play by the Americans, most serious betters are looking to Team Europe to take the Cup this year.

Team Europe will still have the home court advantage even though the “Twenty-Ten” course at Celtic Manor Resort is newly designed for the 2010 Ryder Cup. Team America has only twice taken the win outside the United States in the past thirty years.

Some of the European players have been showing strong play lately. World Golfing Champion Ian Poulter has recently become the WGC’s most successful player. The individuals of Team Europe have been playing better in the singles than usual as compared to the Americans. This is expected to boost the all around scoring for Team Europe.

There are those who also figure in the repercussions on the recent private-life scandal that Tiger Woods has gone through. Speculation is high that this will still be affecting his play even into October’s Ryder Cup tournament.

Although on paper, there does seem to be a small point advantage, it is still considered that this summer’s tours and tournaments will add to the European scores and fine tune them into an unstoppable opponent when the 2010 Ryder Cup tees off.

Team USA – Corey Pavin

Captaining the American Team in the 2010 Ryder Cup is the veteran Championship golfer, Corey Pavin. With the American Team having only won the Cup back in 2008 after eight consecutive losses previously, they are doubly determined to keep the Cup away from the Europeans at the 2010 Ryder Cup being held at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales.

Pavin is no stranger to the Ryder Cup tournament. Of his three previous appearances, he was on the winning team for two of them, one being the last time previous to 2008 that the American Team brought back the Ryder Cup victory.

As with any longtime professional sportsman, Corey has had his ups and downs throughout his golfing career. Once turning to professional golf in 1982, Corey came on strong with three International wins in 1983. This was followed in 1984 by a PGA Tour win at the Houston Coca-Cola Open. For the next ten years Corey Pavin brought home the victory from either a PGA or International tour, if not both, every year. The first part of Corey’s professional career peaked in 1995 with his victory at the U.S. Open.

Pavin experienced a slump after that, sometimes dropping completely out of the Top 100 rankings. Times had become so bad that he clocked up a 242 tournament losing streak before breaking the curse with a win at the 2006 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After a long drought, this 15th career title win marked the beginning of a winning comeback. Since then Corey has been making and breaking records to show he is still a prime golfing contender. His selection as Team America Captain in the 2010 Ryder Cup is proof that he is still a premiere golfer.

Team Europe – Colin Montgomerie

Coming into the 2010 Ryder Cup competition, Team Europe is putting forth a strong challenge to the Americans as the European Team is being headed by Colin Montgomerie as Captain. Montgomerie is no stranger to the Ryder Cup. Among the experience he brings to the Team are eight previous Ryder Cup appearances of which five were with a winning European Team.

Having played his first Ryder Cup in 1991, Colin Montgomerie has amassed twenty wins and seven halved in thirty-six matches in the tournament play. He holds the record for is six singles match wins as well as the seven singles points record.

Colin Montgomerie is eager to return to the Ryder Cup. After eight successive tournaments he missed the 2008 Ryder Cup. Now, with his selection as Team Captain, Colin Montgomerie is eager to lead his Team to a major win over the Americans and regain the Cup. After playing himself under six experienced Captains, Colin Montgomerie is looking forward to including all they taught him to set the stage for victory.

Outside the Ryder Cup, Colin Montgomerie has both an individual and a team win in the coveted World Cup. He has made winning appearances in such venues as the Alfred Dunhill Cup, the Four Tours World Championship, the Seve Trophy, and the Royal Trophy.

CM continues to be a popular celebrity favorite among the golfing public despite his sometimes seemingly grouchy behavior on the golf course. However, being vocal about what he feels are distractions on the course can also be interpreted as concern over the intensity and focus of the game. Regardless, he is set to be a Team Captain of Consequence in the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Celtic Manor Resort – Ryder Cup Venue 2010

Located on the sunny southern side of Christchurch Hill in East Newport. the Celtic Manor Resort stretches over 1,400 acres of rolling countryside overlooked by the Vale of Usk. Being a golf-centric resort, the new “Twenty-Ten” golf course has been especially designed for the Ryder Cup tournament. This will be the first Ryder Cup held in Wales and the Celtic Manor resort is striving to make an awesome impression in 2010.

While the first recorded building on the site was the High Sheriff of Monmouthshire’s residence built in 1634, the current manor house has only stood since its construction by Thomas Powell in 1860. The manor changed hands and occupancies several times over the next century. It has once more been the residence of a High Sheriff of Monmouthshire for Charles Firbank between 1900 and 1915. By the time of the Second World War, the manor had been turned into the Lydia Beynon Maternity Hospital. After thirty years, the hospital closed and the manor was converted to a small hotel in 1980.

As the Celtic Manor grew to fame as an award-winning hotel, the owners had even greater plans. Beginning in 1991, plans were laid and work began to expand the Celtic Manor to a full-fledged golfing resort. A 400 room resort hotel was added along with the beginnings of two professional golf courses. First came the Roman Road course begun in 1992, followed by the Coldra Woods course in 1994.

The Celtic Manor Resort has been host to the All*Star Cup in both 2005 and 2006. With the winning of the bid for the 2010 Ryder Cup, Celtic Manor Resort is setting itself up to wear another Tournament crown with a successful Ryder Cup event.

When you first sign up with an online betting house you will have your Stake in hand. You are then provided several wagering options to choose from. With such strong players being lined up to compete in the Ryder Cup, a conservative method of spreading your chances is to pick the Each Way option.

With Each Way, you are able to place a bet towards either Team winning the Ryder Cup. One half the bet goes toward a team winning at the given odds. The other half goes towards half the given stake at one fourth the odds. This way you receive a payout provided the selected Team at lest places. With there being only two contestants/Teams, some recovery is guaranteed whoever wins.

Another strategy you may consider is to use the Multiple Bet function. This option allows a single bet to be used on a series of events. Provided the first event pays off, the money is then used to bet on the next and so on until either the betting series ends with a profit or the funds are exhausted in a loss. However you choose to play the odds on the Ryder Cup, it can be played to profit for your fun.
